The Brooklyn Bridge
On January 3rd, 1870, The Brooklyn Bridge began being build. The Brooklyn Bridge, originally called "The New York and Brooklyn Bridge, was designed by John Augustus Roebling, a German immigrant. The bridge was opened for use on May 3rd, 1883. The Brooklyn Bridge crosses the East River and is located in New York, between Manhattan and Brooklyn. It is 5,989 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 276.5 feet high.

The Great Chicago Fire
On Sunday, October 8th, 1871, at around 9pm, the Great Chicago Fire began. The fire started in a small barn, a traditional account says that the fire started because a cow kicked over a lamp inside the barn. The fire burned from October 8th to October 10th, 1871. The fire killed hundreds of people and destroyed about 3.3 square miles in Chicago, Illinois. Although the fire was one of the biggest US disasters of the 1800's, the rebuilding helped Chicago because the popular city it is today.

On March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park was established by the US Congress and President Ulysses Grant signed it into law. Yellowstone, located in Wyoming, became the first national park in the world.

Panic of 1873
A finical crisis which caused international economic depression in both Europe and the United States. The depression was known as the Great Depression. The panic was caused by the fall in demand of silver. This depression lasted from 1873 to 1879.
